1) What types of submissions are accepted for the NAREA Workshop?
Answer: The selection committee is looking for papers that address marketing and policy issues for beverage products. In particular, we are looking for abstracts that have the potential to become high quality manuscripts by June 2013 or in early July so that they can be considered in the special issue of the ARER. Extended (1000 word) abstracts are required for all submissions. Additional details can be found in the call for papers.
2) Is there a stipend for presenters of papers at the 2013 Workshop?
Answer: Yes. We are offering a $500 stipend to the presenting author of each of the selected papers that will be presented at the Workshop. The stipend is conditional on authors of Workshop papers submitting a full paper by May 15, 2013. Depending on additional funding, we may be able to offer up to $1000 per presenting author.
3) Are there page charges for workshop papers that become accepted in the special issue of ARER?
Answer: Yes. Papers accepted in the special issue of ARER will be subject to the Journal's normal page charges.
graduate students present at the workshop?
Answer: Yes! We welcome presentations from graduate students, and encourage students to work closely with faculty as co-authors or mentors to enhance the quality of their presented papers.
5) What is the review process for workshop papers?
Answer: The Workshop Paper Review Committee will review the extended abstracts in terms of significance to the field, strength of methodology/design, clarity of writing and application to the workshop. Reviews will occur in late February and in March. The Workshop Committee will notify authors of their decision on all submitted papers by March 31, 2013. Reviews are not blind.
6) What is the difference between a workshop paper and a selected paper at the regular NAREA meeting?
Answer: Selected papers at the NAREA conference are "stand alone" submissions that are reviewed based solely on their individual merits, and that address one of the topic areas defined by NAREA. Selected papers will be reviewed separately and decisions for conference papers will be made separately. Accepted papers are then grouped with others based on topic within a selected papers session. Workshop paper submissions should be sent to the Workshop committee by February 15, 2013 and must address the theme of the Workshop (Beverage Markets and Policy Issues)
7) What information is required the online submission of workshop papers?
Answer: The submission of proposals for the workshop papers require author information (i.e. full name, institution/organization, and contact number), a short abstract of no more than 50 words, and an extended abstract of no more than 1000 words.
8) Is a full paper required or only an abstract for a workshop paper?
Answer: Only extended abstracts are required. Full papers will be required by mid-July for all Workshop presenters that plan to submit a manuscript to be considered in the special issue of ARER.
9) When will I be notified about the status of my Workshop paper submission?
Answer: Notification dates are posted in the call for Workshop papers and on the Annual Meeting website. The anticipated notification date is March 31, 2012.
10) I missed the submission deadline (e.g., due to website or computer problems, misreading the due date, etc.). Can you accept a late submission?
Answer: Only in the most rare and unavoidable circumstances will the deadline be extended. Difficulty with the web submission process is not sufficient justification for an extension. We suggest submitting abstracts a few days early to make sure everything proceeds smoothly.
11) Can I change the date and/or time of my Workshop paper presentation? Can I request a specific date and/or time for my presentation?
Answer: No. The program is put together under numerous constraints, including the distribution of topics within and across different Workshop sessions, and coordinating presentations so that presenters are not double-booked. We are generally unable to accommodate requests for individual time slots or changes.
12) Can I change the order of my paper within the session?
Answer: We strongly discourage changing the order of presentations within each Workshop session after acceptance. Altering the order of presentations can cause attendees to miss important presentations. The final decision, however, rests with the moderator of each Workshop session.
13) What is the time allotment for workshop presentations?
Answer: There will be four Workshop sessions; two on Saturday afternoon and two on Sunday morning. Each session will run for 100 minutes. We expect that most of the Workshop sessions will include four papers, so we suggest allowing around 20 minutes for presentations, leaving five minutes for questions/discussion after each presentation. When only three papers are scheduled in a session, individual presentations can run for 25 minutes with an additional 7 or 8 minute period for questions/discussion. The Workshop session moderators will make final decisions regarding minutes per presentation.
14) Will a projector and a laptop will be available in the room?
Answer: Yes. Presenters simply need to bring their presentation file on a thumb drive and load it to the laptop prior to the start of their presentation session.
15) Do workshop presenters have to pay the workshop registration fee or the regular NAREA Meeting registration fee?
Answer: Yes, all Workshop presenters need to pay the Workshop fee. We also encourage all Workshop participants to stay for the NAREA meeting and present a paper as part of the general NAREA meeting. If you attend and/or present a paper at the NAREA conference, you will also need to pay the registration fee for the conference. Workshop presenters do not need to be members of NAREA, but you must be a NAREA member to attend the regular NAREA meeting on June 23 to 25, 2013.
