Call for Papers and Posters

NAREA 2021 Virtual Annual Meeting

June 13 – 15, 2021

Submission Deadline: February 22, 2021

Where to Submit: Selected paper and poster proposals should be submitted through NAREA’s Annual Meeting submission system

For information on submission of papers for the Virtual Workshop on Evidence-Based Policy in Resource, Environmental, Energy, and Agricultural Economics, please refer to the Workshop website.

What to Submit: We invite proposals for selected papers and posters*. We welcome submissions in all areas of resource, environmental, and agricultural economics.

*We are prioritizing ways to make this fun, network powerful and research-engaging.

Selected paper and poster submissions should include: (1) the title of paper; (2) names and institutional affiliations of the author and co-authors; (3) name and email address of the paper presenter; (4) an abstract of no more than 500 words; and (5) 2-4 keywords. The Selected Papers Committee will review abstracts in terms of significance to the field, strength of methodology/design, clarity of writing, and fit within conference topics. Some paper proposals may be invited to present as a poster instead of a paper. If an author submits more than one abstract, he or she may be limited to one presentation.

If you would like to submit an organized session, please have each author submit his or her abstract as above. The organizer must also (by the submission deadline) submit through the "organized session" form: a list of all titles that belong in the session, a title for the session, and a brief (a sentence or two) explanation of the topical relationship among the papers in the session and why the session topic would be of interest to meeting attendees. The organized session may be accepted in whole, in part (and the accepted papers assigned to other sessions) or may be rejected.

We encourage submissions from all scholars. We believe that we do our best scholarly and policy work when all voices are heard and when we are able to be ourselves without fear of reprisal. We value all of our colleagues in scholarly pursuit regardless of their gender identity and expression, age, race, ethnicity, nationality or national origin, religion, sexual orientation, disability, health condition, physical appearance, marital status, parental status, professional status, or personal connections.

Best paper awards:

  1. NAREA Student Paper Competition: To encourage students’ interest in agricultural and resource economics, we invite students to compete in the NAREA Student Paper Competition. To submit a paper, the student is required to be the lead author. From the papers submitted we will select three finalists to give an oral presentation, and the winner will receive:
    1. A $400 check
    2. A plaque recognizing the accomplishment
    3. Expedited review and, upon acceptance, the publication of the paper in the ARER journal while waiving publication (APC) charges.

Special publication opportunities are also available for the two other finalists.

  1. Best Paper Award: To recognize young scholars, we encourage those that are seven years or less from completion of their PhD and that are lead authors, to submit their paper for the Best Paper Award. From the papers submitted, we will select three finalists. The three selected finalists will give an oral presentation, and the winner of the competition will receive:
    1. A $400 check
    2. A plaque recognizing the accomplishment
    3. Expedited review and, upon acceptance, the publication of the paper in the ARER journal while waiving publication (APC) charges.

Young scholars with research at a more preliminary stage are welcome to submit a proposal to present at the 2021 Annual Meeting and then, when the research is more finalized, submit a proposal to also present at the 2022 Annual Meeting and for the 2022 Best Paper Award.

Submission Deadline: February 22, 2021. Electronic acknowledgement will be sent to all submitters. We expect to notify the authors by early April 2021. If accepted, all presenters must be NAREA members and registered for the Annual Meeting by May 1, 2021. Submission questions should be directed to the Program Chair, President-Elect Caroline Noblet (caroline.noblet@maine.edu ) or to Selected Papers Chair Jakina Debnam Guzman (jguzman@amherst.edu ).
